History
Ilvo Fontana, master of precision engineering instruments, received a prestigious commission from the Italian Navy: to design and build a new model of watch for its pilots. This challenge meant satisfying the high quality standards of the Navy and respecting very precise technical specifications, but above all guaranteeing maximum visibility and reliability in any light and weather condition. However, circumstance at that time did not allow the project to materialize. In 2000 Italo Fontana, Ilvo’s grandson, came across these precious designs, which were to become his source of inspiration for the creation of the first U-Boat watch and his new dimension in time.
Each and every watch is entirely hand made with stunning Valjoux movements pushing a power reserve of 44 hours. The materials used span everything from steel to ceramic, bronze and sterling silver allowing each timepiece to evolve organically and define its own individuality.
Today U-BOAT boasts over 15 U-BOAT Boutiques in the world and only the best representation throughout the United Kingdom. Director, Patrick Moufarrige, opened the UK office when he was 24 and championed a fast-paced, entrepreneurial and initiative-driven environment where everyone is still under the age of 30.
